Gunnedah Mayor Jamie Chaffey looks forward to advocating strongly for regional interests after being elected to the interim Chairperson role of Namoi Unlimited.
An official election will be held in June calling for positions for the newly formed Joint Organisation of Councils, Namoi Unlimited; however, in the interim Cr Chaffey will assume the role.
“I would like to thank outgoing Chair Andrew Hope, Liverpool Plains Shire Mayor, for his commitment and dedication to the organisation during his term as Chair,” Cr Chaffey said.
“I am honored to be nominated for the interim role and my intention is to stand for the official role at the elections for the ensuing two-year term.”
Cr Chaffey said he is looking forward to the challenge ahead and has a strong focus on ensuring the region’s voice is heard.
“As a regional organisation we are 100 per cent committed to our shared objectives and working together collaboratively as members of Namoi Unlimited to see benefits for residents of our Shires,” Cr Chaffey said.
“It is important we continue to work together on regional issues. We already have many activities that we are undertaking around roads, economic development and infrastructure, and that regional focus will continue.
“Going forward, we will be taking a strong united voice as advocates for our region to our State and Federal Governments on issues, concerns and opportunities that affect our Shires.”
