Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS)
In recognition of Gunnedah as a major sporting community and home to many state and national champions, Council has entered into an Association partnership with the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS).
NIAS is an incorporated, autonomous, community based organization established in 1992 to identify and prepare talented sportspeople in the Northern Inland region to reach their maximum potential, on and off the field! Its mission is to provide opportunities, pathways and access to skill development, athlete and coach support services that will develop individual potential, and support those identified talented sportspeople in making the transition to higher levels of competition and performance. NIAS provides talent development programs, support and activities to sport in regional areas and helps local athletes overcome major disadvantages such as the tyranny of distance, limited access to quality coaching opportunities, inadequate regular high quality competition and limited exposure to state sporting bodies.
This exciting new partnership will enable local sporting enthusiasts from across the Shire greater access to training camps, coaching clinics and coach development days.
